The never-ending list of blogging tips (starting with 24 tips)

I’ve been blogging for 18 months now (mostly in Dutch) and I think it’s time to share my “how to be a successful blogger” tips.

Before I give you my tips I want to let you know (especially if you’re a blogger) that this list is never-ending… I would like you to share you’re blogging tips in the comments below. I will put those tips in the original post (with a link to your blog of course)…

Never ending list of blogging tips:

Write about a topic which you can relate to. Write about your hobbies, work or passions…
Write regularly. It’s better to post one article per week than four articles on one day per month.
Write unique articles. There are plenty of echo blogs. Try to be unique.
Break up your posts into smaller chunks.
Make sure the background contrasts with the body text.
Be consistent throughout your whole blog. Design, writing, formatting, updates.
Watch for typos.
Write a compelling title and don’t make it too long.
Use visually interesting pictures.
Use bulleted and numbered lists.
Introduce yourself to the blogging community, let them know you exist!
Put links in your posts to other bloggers. Fat chance they will link back to you.
Get active in the blogging community. Comment on other blogs.
Thank bloggers personally for linking to one of your articles, get friends.
Use your own name and make a clear “About” page. Let your readers know who you are.
Be patient. It takes al while before people find your blog. Don’t give up and keep writing!
Don’t try to monetize your blog right away. First build a steady group of readers before you place something like Google Adsense.
Make sure you place a big RSS icon on the top of your blog. Invite and stimulate people to subscribe to your RSS feed.
Wordpress users: make sure you’ve installed the “Related posts” plugin.
Ask questions at the bottom of an article. You want as many people possible to comment on your blog.
Respond to the comments from your readers!
Offer a full RSS feed. If people want to comment they will go to your blog anyway.
Make sure your readers can reach you. Make at least use of a contact form on your blog. Also share your “personal” info like an email address and telephone number.
Make use of social media buttons (Digg, Furl) at the bottom of every post.
