Search engine optimization for E-commerce sites

January 30th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Search engine marketing for E-commerce sitesMore and more people are starting an E-commerce site. Some of them part time, others quit their day job and dedicate their lives to run an online business…

But whenever the market grows the competition grows as well. And more competition means more hard work for you!

For most webmasters the search engines are most important for attracting visitors. In this article I will give you a search engine optimization tip for you E-commerce site.

Unique content
A couple of years ago I had my own E-commerce site (we sold consumer electronics). The suppliers send us the product information. We added the product to our e-commerce site and used the product information the supplier had send us. We just copied it to the webpage (product page).

Looking back at that I can only say one thing: dumb, dumb dumb! What where we thinking? That the search engines would find us and give us high rankings? No way…

The search engines like websites with unique content. But how could we be unique? We where using the product information which the supplier send us. And we weren’t he only one who received that same product information.

So write unique content about every single product you are selling. Give product information, benefits and product details. Make sure you use the keyword you are targeting (probably the name of the product) a couple of times.

For more unique content you can let visitors give their review of the product. This way the product page will keep growing which is good for you search engine rankings!
