Getting your webpage on the front page of Digg is always nice. Most of the time (always) it will lead to more visitors. There are even cases where the webserver crashed due the (temporarily) increase of traffic.
But getting to the front page of Digg isn’t that easy. There are several articles and websites explaining how you should get your website to the front page. But we are going to take a different approach… Here is a list of things you should do (or not) to be sure you won’t make it to the front page of Digg (or any other social media website):
Submit your own articles
It’s definitely not wise to submit your own articles. Experienced users will notice that and most of the time they will not Digg your story. Why? For them Digg.com is what is was meant to be for, sharing. Not for trying to get as many visitors as possible.
Submitting old news
Let me think. You just discovered Digg.com and want to submit your articles because you think they will bring in al lot of traffic. Wrong! Digg users will see you are submitting old news or old articles (mmm, what did I say about submitting your own articles?).
Go for the “big” money
What you will do with the visitors is up to you. If you want to make money on a short term just fill your website with advertising so Digg users will see that you are using them for the money!
Beg people for Digging your story
Another way to make sure you won’t make it to the front page of Digg is by begging users to Digg your story. If the content is interesting they will Digg it anyway…
Sure, there are many way’s to be sure you’re story won’t make it to the front page of social media websites. Writing an article about things you should do to make sure you’re story won’t make it to the front page of a social media website is probably one of them.
But I don’t care because this article is not for getting to the front page of Digg, but to inform you how you should get your story to the frontpage! So please don’t Digg this article (I’ve done it myself)…

Do you mean you got your article to the front page of Stumbleupon or that you use Stumbleupon?
I like both social media websites… (and Sphinn too)

Great list, but I don’t agree on #4. You need a group of people (either in your friends list or instant messenger) that you can count on that they will Digg your story.
It’s impossible to get an article to the frontpage of Digg with just quality content, or you must be very, very lucky!

Agree Coen… But there are cases where the article was submitted by an outsider and got popular because of it’s content.
